Q. What does the study involve?
The SHELL study team will visit your child’s class during the school day. The children will have the opportunity to take part in engaging science education sessions. During the activities, the team will measure children’s language and reading skills and other cognitive abilities, such as paying attention. You can find more details on our Project Info page.
Q. Will my child miss out on lesson time in school in order to take part in the study?
The SHELL activity day will be closely linked to your school’s curriculum. The intention is for the activities to enhance your child’s learning. There will also be one-to-one testing on another day, which will take around 30 minutes for each child, keeping time out of lessons to a minimum.
Q. What is eye tracking?
Eye tracking is a technology to measure eye movements to help researchers understand visual attention and cognitive processes. It is non-invasive and does not take videos of the participant, just records a dot on the screen where they are looking at different times.
